Id has multiple encounters. Players meet him in Chapter 3 as the Mysterious Swordsman before he is Identified and encountered again in Chapter 5 and 8. Start the fight with a tentative approach and targeting Id. He has a number of ranged and AoE attacks and has the ability to deal ranged attacks with his weapon. Because of the scale of these attacks, it would be beneficial to have a number of ranged Allies in the party to do a steady amount of damage without having to get too close in the danger zone, while having a balanced or heavy attack player such as Gran, play offensive with close ranged attacks.

Watch when he charges up his weapon, you should be able to see some indicators and rings of purple that will act as a guide to how far his attacks can reach. A few of his more standard attacks will be telegraphed, allowing your characters to dodge out of the way before they follow through. Watch as he pulls back the sword and holds it for a charged attack that will continue to shoot ahead in front of him. You'll want to avoid positioning your character directly in front of him. If you're going to run in to attack, run in at an angle. You can circle around him for any linear attack to get into a better position to continue performing combos before his next action. This may also force him to resort to switching to his basic melee combos. At this point, more characters can run in and press on before his next larger attack.

Be ready for his ability to dash away and switch positions very quickly while sometimes accompanying the dash with a lunging strike. This is a quick maneuvering ability that can catch you off guard and can quickly be followed up by an additional string of attacks. He not only has a number of very powerful ranged attacks and AoE attacks that can surround him, but he can also aim an AoE attack at a distance away form where he stands. Each of these larger attacks will have a visual indicator before they are deployed. You will be able to see the arc and path of this AoE pool that can lightly track a character before the attack follows through. You will see a circle indicator to show the range and area of this attack. It will then start to expand from the center before he then repositions himself in the center of the Dark pool. There are a few more versions of this pool attack. Id has the ability ot summon multiple smaller pools which will later result in a blast in the marked areas. This can be in a circle of 5 pools with one larger pool in the center or even smaller ring of pools that will each release a blast if you're caught in them once the pools are formed. Ultimately after all your efforts in the first encounter, it will still result in the defeat of your party to progress through the story, but players will still face him again later on in Chapter 5: Shadows in the Snowscape. You will see the same set of maneuvers and attacks in Chapter 5.

Chapter 5

You will see the same set of maneuvers and attacks in Chapter 5. Start by placing a target on Id. He will begin with his basic set of attacks including his dash and Charged Sword Strike attack. Start strong by advancing and playing offensively to start and deal as much damage before he progresses to his larger attacks. Keep to his back and circle around him to keep to his back for the highest chance of avoiding his attacks. If he lifts himself in the air, stay clear of the area just below him since he will make a hard AoE landing. Progress through the fight enough and eventually, a cutscene will interrupt and progress into Managarmr's Boss fight.

Id (Boss) Attacks & Counters

Attack Description Counter
Basic Melee Attack If you get too close sometimes Id will resort to a regular melee combo.  These melee attacks can be dodged or blocked depending on your character. This is the best time for multiple characters to play aggressively.
Charged sword Strike Id pulls back his sword and holds it to charge before releasing it in a downward strike and letting out a linear attack in the same direction.  Dodge to either side or stay clear of the direct front of Id. You can continue to attack him from the side or behind as this attack is in action.
Energy throw Id can harness and throw energy out in a linear attack. Quickly dodge out of the direction of the attack on either side.
Dash Maneuver A swift maneuver that allows Id to quickly reposition a distance away from his original spot. This can also be accompanied by an attack . Get ready to run toward his new spot to continue pressuring him with your attacks. If you think he is lunging towards you, try to dodge away in time with the lunge.
Dark Pool AoE Id can deploy a pool in another area within the arena. This is indicated with a purple circle and will then start in the middle of the marked area and quickly expand outward before he himself lands in the center of the marked pool area.  As soon as you see the red line marking you as a target, you will need to keep running around the arena. Try to gain some space between you and Id and stay clear of the marked areas on the ground. You should see the energy pool begin to expand outward. This will cause a lot of damage if you're caught in it.
Muli- Dark Pool Blast Like the larger dark pool, Id can summon a pattern of smaller pools, usually in a circle that will each take time to form. The range of the damage and attack locations will be marked in purple on the ground before each pool releases a powerful blase.  As much as possible, you will need to be away from the ground around you and as soon as the markings appear, run away from them to avoid the blast of the marked area. You may be able to run in between the gaps of the pools to continue toward Id and continue an offensive approach.
Dark Crystal AoE This attack will not be marked on the ground but will cause a large dark pool that will appear surrounding Id and will push up a force of dark crystals within the AoE area.  You will need to be quick to clear Id's general surrounding area to avoid getting affected by this attack.
AoE landing Id lifts from the ground and lands causing an AoE ring around him As soon as Id is lifted off the ground steer clear fro the area beneath him to avoid getting caught in this attack. Wait for the action to play out before resuming attacks if you can't attack at a distance.
