Proto Bahamut Fight Strategy
The Best Tips for Proto Bahamut:
- Recommended Party: n/a
- Recommended Sigils: n/a
Proto Bahamut remains airborne for the fight, but relies on a number of clawing and striking attacks with its arms and claws, forcing it to approach the boat and putting the Proto Bahamut within melee reach. You should be able to target its chest as it leans in and its claws after a slam attack. There will be moments where its claws will rest on the surface of the boat in between attacks allowing you to freely target and attack them. Note that this boss fight encounter will not have a boss bar and your objective is just to knock some sense into Proto Bahamut, so you'll need to repeat the same attack patterns until the next scene is triggered.
The Proto Bahamut has a basic attack pattern and can be anticipated. Its movements are generally slow-moving and telegraphs, displaying a brief wind-up or drawback before the follow-through. Some of its attacks will display markings on the ground just before the actual attack. The Proto Bahamut will generally slam or swipe its claws in the same areas to either side of the boat. There will be attack marks prior to the follow-through of some attacks allowing you some time to dodge out of harm's way. Be patient and look out for these attack windows in between each attack the Proto Bahamut deals. Then save our combos for just after an attack is dealt by the Proto Bahamut. Make sure to position yourself parallel to him to get a good position and avoid standing on the attack landing areas. Wait for it to approach if it flies out of reach.
As the fight progresses, the Proto Bahamut will also make use of its teeth and begin snapping in addition to the claw attacks. Watch out for this if you decide to approach for an attack. Other extensive attacks will also begin to appear. Watch the ground for attack markings so you know where to run and which areas to avoid. Continue to attack whenever its claws come within range and hold him off until the fight progresses.
Phase 2
During this phase, Proto Bahamut will fly up ahead of the Grandcypher, which will then ram it. From this point after impact, you can now run in and continue to attack the body of Proto Bahamut. Be aggressive at this point and soon the fight will end.
Tale of Bahamuts Rage
Phase 1
For phase 1 of the fight you'll mostly be using the ether cannons to shoot down the orbs it summons which are a non issue, the main threat are the pylons Bahamut summons, the purple(?) ones are a non issue, the main threads are the elemental ones that are larger and have different attacks, The fire pylon is summoned in a duo and summons large fireballs, the wind pylon is summoned in a quartet and summons whirlwinds, the earth pylon is summoned solo and has a shield, breaking any of the elemental pylons stuns Bahamut for the grandcypher to get close and ram, allowing you to wail on it
Phase 2
In this phase Proto Bahamut starts by breaking its shackles and unleashes Skyfall as its opener, after the attack ends the fight becomes similar to the prologue fight, with bahamut flying up to the grandcypher and swinging its claws at you. At 50% bahamut will go into super state and transition into phase 3
Phase 3
In this phase Proto Bahamut powers up with Absolute Judgement and fires off Supernova, after it ends the fight will resume similar to phase 2 but with added things like shockwaves on the slams, after some damage bahamut will fly away and summon 2 large light orbs which you have to shoot at with the cannons, it will then summon a pylon, after a while bahamut will go into overdrive, leading into phase 4
Phase 4
This is just prologue's phase 2 but with the added thread of bahamut charging up a devastating attack
Proto Bahamut Attacks & Counters
Attack | Description | Counter |
Claw Sweep | Proto Bahamut slams one claw onto one side of the ship and drags it over sweeping anyone in its path. The claw mark path will appear before the sweep. | Since the area of the attack is marked just before the sweep follows through, players will be able to back up out of the attack path before the sweep, and then quickly run in to continue targeting its chest. |
Double Claw Slam | Proto Bahamut slams both its claws on the boat. The Proto Bahamut may lift its whole body up before coming down for this attack. | As long as you center your character directly in the middle facing the Proto Bahamut, this attack will generally not make contact since its arms will strike either side of the surface. This attack is also followed by a long pause where the Proto Bahamut rests its claws on the surface of the ship, giving you a long opportunity to attack it before its next action. |
Claw Swipe | A quick swipe of the claw where the Proto Bahamut takes one claw and swats it in one direction. | The Proto Bahamut will lift its arm just before the swipe allowing you to repositon before the swipe. |
Chomping | The Proto Bahamut can be snapping and chomping ahead repeatedly while resting on the side of the ship. | If you back away from its general vicinity, you will not be affected by this attack. You can attempt to use the claw as cover for a while and continue attacking before it reaches over. |
Orb Blasts - Light Blast | The Proto Bahamut will back away and a pattern of orbs will begin to appear around him before blast zone markings will start to appear on the ground indicating where they will land. | Wait for the circle marking to appear on the ground so you know which areas to avoid. Stay out of the marked areas to avoid damage and wait for the next claw attack so you can continue to attack its claws. |
Beam Attack - Reginleiv | The Proto Bahamut can shoot out a beam from its mouth that can slowly sweep across the combat area. | Run forward or backward since the beam will begin to sweep horizontally. |
Skyfall | Proto Bahamut will break its shackles and fire a gigantic beam that deals unwordly damage and is a guarenteed down | Run to the back or front of the grandcypher |
Absolute Judgement | Not much an attack as is a powerup and phase transition where bahamut goes into super state It will always go into Supernova after |
Listed here as it has the attack name popup |
Supernova | This attack consists of 3 parts: The explosions, tracking explosions and the beam The normal explosions will just charge up in a large area The tracking explosions will track while charging up The beam is much like Skyfall and does similar amount of damage |
For the explosions, just get out of their area, their pretty slow For the tracking ones run around, they'll stop tracking after they charge up For the beam, do the same as skyfall but keep running as it has a vaccum effect |

REBIRTH AND DESTRUCTION, AGAIN AND AGAIN

Page needs updated cause you encounter him again on an engage quest to get special weapons and he has a LOT more attacks than this
this page seems to be missing an important drop from his Proud variant: breaking his horns grants the "Horn or Bahamut" item. this seems to be the only way to get the item, as i have not gotten it from any other regular quest reward.
