Vulkan Bolla Nihilla is an ominous mirage of the fire primal beast Vulkan Bolla and has a move set and attack set much like the original boss encounter with some enhancements and additional attacks. much like the other Nihilla bosses. The terrain and setting for this fight will also take place in a similar arena surrounded by Dark magma, making the appearance purple.

The Vulkan Bolla Nihilla can immediately start with some violent thrashing of its arms. You will want to stay clear of its general vicinity for the duration of this attack or circle around it. You can approach the Proto Bahamut in the same way as the regular version, by aiming for its torso and claws when they are within reach, This may put you on the edge of the platform, so make sure you do not accidentally step off. In addition to its basic set of attacks, it also can now knock the edge of the end of the rock platform and hurl the crushed rock forward, forcing the characters to back up. As with the first encounter, be persistent with your attacks and continue to pursue the reachable parts of the Vulkan Bolla Nihilla to wear down its HP.

The Vulkan Bolla Nihilla will keep a lot of its large-scale attacks and ability to flood whole platforms and send a more intense rain of magma pools and puddles, so you will want to be even more nimble when navigating through the arena and settling in any position, cause each spot can easily quickly be compromised with magma. Watch the floor for any warning markings. His Ranged attack will also continue to display a red line marking the path of the attack before it follows through. If it goes into overdrive at some point, you'll need to continue pressing aggressively to reach Break. This is how you can each perform a link attack and deal the successive Skybound arts to maximize damage and perform a Full Burst. Once you reach break the Vulkan Bolla Nihilla will be knocked and open to deal as much damage during this period.

You'll continue to have opportunities to Chain Burst and link your attacks, repeatedly knocking it down and slowly depleting the Vulkan Bolla's HP bar. Once you reach the halfway point, Phase 2 will begin.

Phase 2

Much like the previous encounter with the regular Vulkan Bolla, phase 2 begins with the large fireball in the center of the arena. You'll need to travel to different platforms on the edges the same way while clearing which reachable part including its claws and tail to slowly decrease the size of the fireball.

Use the cracked platforms and hop over them to reach each part until the ball of fire is cleared. Continue approaching the same way, while using your combos and Link attacks as much as possible against the Vulkan Bolla Nihilla to clear out the rest of its HP, focusing on its claws, head, and torso while they are within reach. Repeat the process until the boss fight is cleared.

Vulkan Bolla Nihilla Attacks & Counters

Attack Description Counter
Thrash With both arms the Vulkan Bolla Nihilla thrashes down swinging both arms in one direction before swinging them back. Circle around this attack while avoiding the range of its reach. Otherwise, you will want to wait till the duration of the attack is over before running in to attack.
Boulder hurl The Vulkan Bolla Nihilla starts the attack by breathing fire on the edge of the rock platform before swinging at it, causing the edge of the edge of the platform to break off and hurling a few boulders ahead.  Back up to avoid the contact with the boulders, or run to either side to stay out of the boulders' path,
Hand Slam Vulkan Bolla Nihilla reaches over and slams down its hand. This can affect the ground around the landing area and can follow up with a blast.  Dodge out of the landing area. You can also run toward the Vulkan Bolla Nihilla during this maneuver to continue close-ranged attacks since the slam will be a distance away. There will be a wind-up to this attack which will also give you a chance to dodge it. If you are near the attack area, don't run too far since you can follow up by targeting the slammed hand after waiting for the action to complete before he begins his next attack.
Lava Puddles Vulkan Bolla Nihilla leaves pools of lava in its path as it repositions around the arena.  Players can continue to attack its body prior to the maneuver, but just as it hoists its body out of the lava, you'll need to dodge out of the way to avoid getting caught in the drops of lava in its trail.
Magma ball Vulkan Bolla can spit out a large Magma ball that shoots in a linear path. There will be a marked red line to indicate the path before the fiery magma ball shoots out.  Dodge away from the direction of the attack if you're at a distance or begin to maneuver away from him as soon as it lowers its head. The mark indicating the path of the magma ball will appear before it shoots out, giving you a chance to move out of the path of the attack before the ball is released.
Magma Wash The Vulkan Bolla Nihilla can flood out a section of the arena, covering it in magma. This will be marked beforehand with a pulsating wave. Puddles will also rain down as this attack is being excused.  As soon as the pulsing indicators appear, that is your sign to look for your nearest clear platform to evacuate to before lava starts to rain down followed by a flood that will engulf the whole marked section of the arena.
Lava Spew Vulkan Bolla Nihilla Spews a stream of magma from its mouth in a sweeping motion covering a large section of the platform.  Players will have no choice but to run out of the affected area and look for any safe terrain.
Ball of Fire
"Dark Rising"
The part of the fight where magma rises and players will need to navigate around the platform islands to reach each part of the Vulkan Bolla Nihilla before the bar is filled.  Clear out the tail and claws to decrease the size of the fire ball.
